Transformation!

This getting to goal weight and keeping it off for life thing..."It's all about your thought life!" I've said it before and trust me, I'll say it again! Tuesday I was on my soap box. I'm convinced that how we think makes ALL the difference not only with weight loss, but in every area of our lives! I talked a bit about what it really looks like to transform our minds. Transformation looks like this...taking an automobile and turning it into a boat! We sometimes think that transformed thinking is about taking a dirty car and cleaning it up, or putting on a new coat of paint on that old rusted out model...but real transformation means you turn that car into something else! That's not the easiest thing to do, that's why we need each other!

We focused on changed thinking and we celebrated too. Tuesdays are like that, serious business with a little fun on the side!  Ranger Rikki gave us a look at the Campers who have already reached 18 pounds or more for this Team Challenge. That means that they have been averaging 3 pounds or more so far! Congratulations to all of you. Keep at it and you're going to have a lot to celebrate at the Grand Finale. Range Rikki reminded us that just a .4 pound weight loss each day between now and the Finale would insure another 8 pound loss!

At Noon, team 'Balsamic Camp Rangers' took the win for the second week in a row with a 2.37% of weight loss! Congratulations to Gary and Jamie! Winning two weeks in a row shows your determination!! Team 'Ram Rod' won at 6PM with a 2.37% for the week! Shane and Will are moving up in the standings! Don't take your eyes off them! Congratulations you guys!

We announced our Camp out location this week too! "Camp Currie" will be hosting the Team Challenge camp out on Friday, June 22nd and Saturday, the 23rd. We hope that choosing a close, friendly location will encourage lots of our campers to attend! Music by the camp fire, skits and stories...we're in for an evening of fun! I hope you and your families will join us!

Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome

Our focus for the week was PAWS. Not because I saw a big old PAW print out side of my tent this weekend while camping,  but because we are a community of people serious about permanent change. PAWS...Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome.

After reading an article recently about PAWS, I was inspired to share this very important message. There are two basic stages of withdrawal that people go through when they are working to change a destructive behavior. Acute, which usually last a few weeks, and Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS) which can last up to two years. With PAWS you have fewer physical symptoms, but more emotional and psychological ones. PAWS occurs because our brain chemistry is gradually returning to normal or changing. Weight loss happens a lot faster than our brain can change! 

One of the keys to navigating through PAWS successfully is to be intentional about self care and rewards. Everything we do, we do out of our need to avoid pain or seek pleasure. The reward system is a CRUCIAL part of changing the way we think permanently to change the way we act in regards to food. We must link pleasure to this new life style, this new way of eating so that we make new pathways in our brain! It is completely necessary to transfer what you believe pleasure was to a new belief system for you to keep your weight off for life! 


Because we believe in the reward system at The Healthy Weigh, we rewarded a couple of teams for their outstanding participation this week.  
At Noon team 'Balsamic Camp Rangers' took the win with a 2.78% of weight loss for the week! Congratulations to Jamie and Gary for such a great job! Team 'Bubbalicious' won during the 6PM hour with 2.36 % weight loss for the week. Congratulation Ruth and Ami, you two really rocked it!! Thanks to Tobey, one of our fellow campers, all the team winners received a tee shirt straight from the Hawaiian Islands and a one hour deep tissue massage, for winning this week!  Thanks Tobey for your never ending support! 


As we head into week # 6 of this CAMP OUT Team Challenge we are well on our way to beating the record for the most weight lost at any Team Challenge so far. We've got a focused group of individuals that really know how to work this program. 


This week's challenge is a two part one:
1. Make a list of rewards...for small victories and big ones.
2. Listen to Week # 5 of the CD series..."Exercise and Weight Loss ~ It's a Math Problem." Be prepared to tell me your maintenance calories next week!

The Buck Stops Here




Week # 5 of this Team Challenge turned out to be a powerful one. We celebrated weight loss as we always do, 192 pounds this week... we heard from "Ranger Rikki' as Glenda helped us understand even more about "backpacks" and what it means to live in the balance...and we tackled a subject that is life changing when embraced. "The Buck Stops Here," was our theme this week. The buck stops here, meaning  responsibility is not passed on beyond this point. We read through a statement from Andy Andrews book, "The Travelers Gift" and dissected the meaning a bit. 

Passing the buck looks like this...trying to control things outside of ourselves, then blaming those same things, the things out of our control; things, people, circumstances, the weather, our parents, even tragedies, for our lack of success. We learned this week that accepting responsibility for our past and present, we free ourselves to move into a bigger, brighter future of our own choosing.

A couple of new teams won the weekly weigh in this week! At Noon team 'No Weigh Know How To' took the win with a 1.55% of weight loss! Bap and Dale took home the sticks and a car detail donated by Beth from the noon group! Congratulations guys! We're proud of you! Dale is at his 49 pound weight loss mark for this Team Challenge already! 
At 6 team 'Gross Weight' won for the evening with 3.13 % of weight loss! Husband and wife, Brittany and Jay had a great loss this week! It's always fun to see couples experience the Team Challenge together!  Congratulations!

I felt extremely passionate this week as I prepared for our gathering. I received news last week that one of our team mates passed away this week from a massive heart attack. Earl Ray from Team "Late Bloomers" 
died last Wednesday. Earl came to The Healthy Weigh after being told by his physician that "he would not live if he didn't lose his weight." I regret not meeting Earl sooner. I'm sorry that we were not able to make a difference for him.  My deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.

As we looked at the power we have to control the things we can and let of go of the things we can't I was reminded of Earl all week. Every one of us has the decision to make about how we will care for our bodies. I hope we all use Earls passing as an inspiration to fight for our good health and take care of ourselves to the best of our abilities.

I challenged our Campers to  read "The Buck Stops Here" statement each day this week and to continue to press in to the CD series and do the homework provided.

Meet Ranger Rikki!

Have I mentioned lately how much I love Tuesdays? Tuesdays at The Healthy Weigh are fun and exciting! We come together to celebrate success and encourage each other to keep fighting all while we're making friends and sharing a laugh or two.  This Tuesday was no exception.

Our winning teams from last week brought back the walking sticks looking a lot better than they did the week before. At noon team 'Ax-Men' sported beads and leather on the sticks and I thought they had done an amazing job UNITL I SAW THE SIX PM STICKS!!! Oh my, team 'Thunder & Lighting' took home the walking sticks last week and brought back works of art! Did I mention that Peggy's husband is a wood worker?? Hand carved down the entire length of each stick was the word YAGODDAWANNA! They are beautiful! I'd want to win for the week just so I could show those off! Thanks to both teams for doing such a great job to get those started for this CAMP OUT Team Challenge!

Our Campers lost another 370.8 pounds this week bringing our total up over 1000 pounds already!
At noon team 'Ax-Men' took the win for the second week in a row with a 2.67% of weight loss! Joe and Ron were our sponsors for the week donating $200 for the two teams... they got to take 1/2 their money home with them! :-) Congratulations you two and THANK YOU for your generosity!
At Six team 'Bubbalicious' won for the first time with a weight loss % of 2.27 for the week! Ami and Ruth took the victory lap and got to take those beautiful walking sticks home...oh yea, and the $100!!

We met our very own Camp Ranger Rikki this week as Glenda was introduced to share her great insights with us over the next weeks to come. She did a great job helping us discover our beliefs so that we can determine if the beliefs we have about ourselves are getting us what we want out of life! Thank you Ranger Rikki!

We also had good old camp skit brought to you by our Alumni!!!  The "INFANT TREE" taught us a lesson this week as we looked at the important small steps it takes to keep progressing forward. Raising our standards was the theme for this weeks camp lesson. We learned that we don't always meet our goals (our shoulds), but we always meet our standards. (our musts) So the questions becomes...how do we raise our standards? How do we turn our shoulds into musts? We talked about the two kinds of motivation...push and pull. Push requires willpower...and willpower doesn't last! What does last is pull. Pull is what happens when something we want is so compelling that you are pulled toward it.

We looked at rituals this tuesday.The rituals of our lives ultimately shape who we are. The little things we do day after day, year after year determine how we live and who we thing we are.  The strongest force in the whole personality is our need to stay consistent with who we are.  An important question to ask ourselves...'When did I decide that this is who I am?... and what's keeping me from changing that?'

Our Campers are listening to the Cd's weekly...doing the homework provided and getting a great lesson each week on Tuesdays. They have EVERY opportunity to come away from these 10 weeks not only much lighter...but changed for good!
