Superheroes...Doing the Hard Stuff!

Week number seven of this Super Hero Team Challenge was pretty powerful! We re-visited one of the items on the "willpower booster" list and focused on it this week.  INTERNAL PROCESSING. You have to be a super hero; full of courage, not afraid to look back, and serious about making the future better, to embrace internal processing!

Here's our list of willpower boosters so far:

Complete Tasks You've been reluctant to do

In reviewing this list of willpower boosters, it's easy to identify and embrace many of the things on this list, but internal processing is one that's easy to side step.  We hit it head on this week at The Healthy Weigh! After listening to "Coping Skills" this week on the CD series, it seemed like perfect timing to press into a couple of difficult subjects. Grief and Forgiveness!

Glenda did a beautiful job talking about grief and the importance of it.  We are a society that doesn't grieve well.  We all have loss. Whether we've lost something, or someone...we all need to grieve. Every one of us go about it differently and Glenda helped us all understand that a little better.

Whether you are grieving the loss of a job, the loss of a relationship, or the tragedy of a lost loved one, the journey to grieve is one that you must own. It's your responsibility to do the hard work of grief.

I didn't give much relief when I stood to share following Glenda's serious subject. I shared my personal story of loss and the choice to forgive. It was important for me to share my story in hopes that those attending Tuesday would be empowered to look at their own lives.

If you got anything out of my story, I would want you to remember that many of us have been deemed powerless in our lives. When we experience powerlessness, no matter what the cause, we will do what it takes to "take back that power" and control things in our world that appear to make things better. I spent many years trying to control external things to prevent the feeling of powerlessness. Freedom came for me when I identified my feelings, and choose to forgive.

The work of internal processing isn't easy and it's not for the weak...that's why I knew we could hit it hard this week with this group of super heroes. :-)

Along with the hard work we're doing to increase our willpower, we're celebrating each week too! We've got a ton of clients already in the 20, 30, and 40 pound clubs!  I'm excited to see what these next three weeks will bring!

Our winners for the week are getting used to doing life wearing capes!
Noon:  team "Twice What I Wanna Feed" Amanda and Frank won with a 2.59% of weight loss!
6PM:   team " Captain Jiggy & Boy Bubble Butt" Ruth and Kris won with a 2.15% of weight loss!

Our Super heroes of the week were Frank at Noon and Ruth at 6! Congratulations to you rock stars!!
Our $50 winner for the week came from our 6 PM group! Jennifer D. was excited when I called out her name.  Good job Jennifer!

Whole Hearted!

I was a beneficiary of two powerful presentations this week at the Team Challenge. One by Glenda and the other by Anita! I've been thinking all morning about the information they shared with us. I'm inspired and challenged...I hope you are too!

Glenda gave us a greater/big picture look at "backpacks." Living in the balance rather than the extreme places in life is our goal. When we "get into other people's backpacks" we live like survivors. When we allow people to "get into our backpack" we live as victims. The key is to take responsibility for, own, and be self controlled of our own back pack. That's being a warrior! Thank you Glenda for this invaluable information!

Anita, one of our very own Alumni, did a beautiful job sharing her testimony. She was real about her journey but challenging too.  She lost 172 pounds on the program by committing to herself and the program. She challenged our team mates to take advantage of not only the support and accountability at The Healthy Weigh, but the emotional teaching as well.  Anita's journey has been one of physical healing as well as emotional renewal.  Thank you Anita for being vulnerable and sharing from your heart. I hope your story of being wholehearted will inspire others to do the same!

We had two new teams win this week! Congratulations to you all!

Noon: team "Dynamic Duo" Dean and Cheri won with a 1.81% of weight loss for the week.
Six:    team "Choose To Lose" Judy and Linda won with a 1.70% of weight loss for the week.

Thanks to our donors, both of these teams went home with GREAT prizes...and the capes!

Our super heroes for the week were Darrel D. and Matt L.  Good going guys!

Congratulations to one of our noon time team mates, Ruby! She won the $50 this week for losing 2.5 pounds!

We are heading into week 7 of this Team Challenge! It's time to recommit, refresh your goals and make a decision to make the MOST of the weeks we have left! When June 18th rolls around you will want to stand proud and know you went into these last weeks wholehearted!

We're learning a lot about willpower and I'm happy to say that The Healthy Weigh has been all about boosting willpower long before we understood the scientific reasons for it! I hope that as we head into these last weeks we'll call on the willpower that we all have to make it the best weeks EVER!

Avoid Triggers!


As we near the ½ way mark of this 10 week Team Challenge, we are learning more and more about willpower and just how much control we have about it! We have the ability to grow it and we have the ability to use it up. It was POWERFUL to see the inspiration boards of so many of our clients today! It was great to see just what inspires us and what builds our willpower!
This week we learned that willpower is a limited resource. Like a muscle, we can stress it by over use. Willpower is simply the capacity to restrain impulses and do the BEST THING, even if it conflicts with what is preferred at the moment!  The question I had to ask my super heroes this week is…How often do you need to do that? (restrain impulses that is). We have a limited resource of willpower and we’ve got to pick and choose when to use it. If we’re smart about willpower, we won’t live a lifestyle where we are constantly drawing on our willpower to do the best things.
Many people position themselves and their lives in such a way that every day requires willpower!  Minimizing the number of battles you have to fight will conserve your energy and willpower for when you need it most!
Our next tip…and another powerful willpower booster!
 AVOID TRIGGERS!
We talked a lot Tuesday about the triggers that can throw us off while we are trying to make healthy choices and use our willpower for good! Triggers become crisis situations!
People with low willpower rely on self-control to get themselves out of crisis situations.People with high willpower use it to avoid the crisis in the first place!
Reserving willpower was an important thought of the day, but building willpower was too!
Scientists have discovered that the very act of doing something you feel reluctant to about helps you to build willpower so long as the tasks are important things. Performing them works your willpower muscle.

So to recap:Reserve willpower by making your environment safe and avoiding crisis all together.Build willpower by completing a task that you’ve been reluctant to do.
