So just How DO you get out of that pit?

It was great to be back at The Healthy Weigh this Thursday after cruising to Alaska last week. Dan Russell filled in for me and did a great job!   The feedback was awesome and He inspired each one to "set their faces" and give it all they've got! I'm looking forward to reading his new book "Finish Strong."

We talked about finishing strong this week as we have one week to go to end this life changing Team Challenge...Live Your Best Life!  Being close to completing my 26th Team Challenge I've seen a pattern. It's easy to start out strong...but not as easy to finish strong.  Finishing strong takes discipline, commitment and persistence! It's also take constant motivation...personal, inward, meaningful motivation. I say meaningful, because what might motivate one person, won't motivate another. I reminded everyone this week that motivation comes from the word motive.  Motivation...the motive that cause one to act.

We know, even from the experiences that have taken place in the last ten weeks, that hard things happen. Pain and loss and stress get us off track.  We also know from our study of what living your best life looks like, that easy lives, don't make very good stories!  It's not the troubles that we face that make for a great story...it's how we overcome them.

My focus this week was to help everyone understand that we can't expect ourselves to just "get over it" or " start fresh" or "wake up with a new attitude" if we haven't used any tools to make that happen.  I also pointed out that sometimes our motivation can flip a switch in us and turn our thinking around in a snap...but more times than not, it's more like a dimmer switch.  WE MUST use the tools that we've all learned at the healthy weigh to keep motivation alive. Motivation is in the DOING!

  • Journal your feelings
  • Make a list of the pain that over eating has caused you
  • Make a list of the pleasure eating healthy brings you
  • Prep your food
  • Visualize yourself at goal weight living the life you want to live
  • Make a collage
  • Get out a calendar and start looking ahead to the reasons you want to live your best life
  • Make a list of what your life would look like if you didn’t keep at it
  • Make a list of rewards attached to even the simplest things…(getting in all your water today) etc.
  • Look at old pictures of yourself... good or bad pictures
  • Hang smaller clothes out in front of your closet
  • Try on clothes
  • Take pictures
Motivation is in the doing!!!  Do some of these things, or ALL of these things and see if your dimmer switch starts to turn.  We MUST become experts at motivating ourselves!  That's where the permanent change happens!  We spent some time looking at GREAT people who failed many times and just kept at it!   Success isn't about the fall...it's about how we got back up!

I announced our theme for the Fall Team Challenge!  "THE POWER OF HABIT...MOTIVATION IS WHAT GETS YOU STARTED. HABIT IS WHAT KEEPS YOU GOING"
I'm thrilled to be moving into another powerful challenge with information to help us all make permanent changes in our lives.  Our Habits become our destiny, so I thought we better take a closer look at them! We are going to be doing that this fall!
